The DCU faculty is comprised of professionals whose interest in the students is shown through their dedication to their respective programs. Each member of
our faculty has years of training in their respective fields or in working with children. Several Staff Members have undergraduate and graduate degrees in
education, dance, art, music, theater and science or are majoring in Education.

 

Our faculty is very passionate about sharing their art with all students, children and adults. We believe in order to learn and be the “best” you can be, you must enjoy what you are doing. Therefore our experienced faculty that loves the arts and working with children, fosters a fun, nurturing, yet structured environment in which to learn and grow.

Cathy Roland - Owner/ARTISTIC DIRECTOR of the DCU, since 1999

- Over 30 Years experience as a dance professional; performer, choreographer, instructor, competitive gym coach and director.

- Dance and gymnastics training -18 yrs-Mary Jane Strondak; Methuen, MA

- Graduate of “The Dance Teacher’s Club” of Boston-Teacher Training School, 1982

- Has won numerous awards as a performer, teacher and choreographer

- USA Gymnastics Professional Member and Safety Certified since 1982

- Earned B.S. in Ed. /Sports Medicine from Southwest Texas State, 1989

 

 Jordan Anderson ~ 3rd Year DCU Faculty Member and 8th Year

Teaches and Choreographs for recreational Hip Hop and our DCUnity Dance Troupes

Merissa Horton - 5th Year Staff Member

Teaches in both the dance and gymnastics programs at DCU

- Started dancing at age 6 and Gymnastics at age 7

- Competed in USA Gymnastics for 5 years.

- At age 10, was ranked 39th in the State of Texas in USA Gymnastics.

- Member of the DCU Gym Stars Gymnastics Team for 3 years.

- Member of the DCUnity Dance Troupe from 2003-2008.

- Member of the Lockhart Lionettes (4 years) and served as a Lionette Officer for 2 years.

- Graduate of Lockhart High School

- joined the McLennan Community College dance Team and was a NDA National Collegiate Champion for 2 years.

- Performed at the XLV Superbowl with the Black Eyed Peas.

 

Destanie Leath ~ 2nd Year DCU Teaching Assistant in Recreational Dance and Gymnastics

• Former DCU Hot Shots Gymnastics team Member 2 years

Sarah Regalado - 10th Year Staff Member

- Started dancing at age 2

- Technical training in all disciplines at The DCU, 1999-2010 (11 yrs)

- One of The DCU’s original 19 students

- Member of the DCUnity Competitive Dance Troupe, 2000-2010

- DCU Staff Member since 2007

- Lockhart Honor Student and Lionette’s Varsity Member, 2007-2009

- Lockhart Lionette’s Officer, 2008-2009

- Key Club Member and LHS Year Book Staff (3 yrs)

- Accepted to Joffrey Ballet School Summer Intensive 3 week program, by Scholarship, 2009

- Accepted into St. Edwards University by Scholarship

- Member of the Dean’s Leadership Council for the School of Education at St. Edwards University

- Co-director of the Dean’s Leadership Council for the School of Education at St. Edwards University

- Student Government Ambassador to the school of Education at St. Edwards University

- Member of Phi Alpha Theta National Honor Society

 

  

Amanda Stevens - 6th Year Staff Member

- Started dance training at age 4 at Tammy Kim Dancers in Alvin, Texas

- Started teaching at age 16 and was an Officer on her High School Drill Team

- Received a Dance Scholarship to Stephen F. Austin State University

- Graduate of the University of Houston with a B.S. in Psychology

- Danced professionally with Planet Funk Entertainment

- In 2000, danced professionally at Disney’s California Adventure Park

- Taught at Dance Dimensions in Woodland Hills, California

- Danced professionally with two local companies: Jazz Ballet Company of Austin and The Pointe Dance Studio’s Annual Nutcracker

- Taught dance and gymnastics at Jackie’s Private School, 2003-2010

- Director of Jackie’s Fundanzers, a competitive and performing Dance Troupe

- Her latest performance includes the music video, “Thoughts of You” by Larissa Ness

- Amanda teaches a wide array of dance, gymnastics and choreography to all; she teaches from the heart and is inspired by love, laughter and her students

- Amanda is happy to be teaching here at The DCU and is looking forward to sharing her passion with all these wonderful children and families

 

Erica Pena ~ 9th Year DCU Faculty Member
Received  her BFA from California Institute of the Arts in 2011
- Erica has been teaching dance for 12 years.
- She has taught at The DCU, Plaza Production 1 (an offsite program), KOA Dance Federation, and JADD COMPANY Dance Studio.
Pilates certification in the Sheppard Method with master teacher Risa Sheppard.
As a dance artist living in Los Angeles, Erica worked with award winning choreographer Janet Roston on numerous projects. She was also a member of the No Strings Attached Dance Theater, directed by Lissa Resnik, and the Datugan Dance Theater, directed by Ken Datugan.
- Erica performed internationally at the “Cita con la Danza in Benicassim, Spain.
- Now that she is back in Texas, she is excited to share her experiences and passion for dance with the community.

 

Chloe Staffor ~ 3rd Year DCU Staff Member and Assistant
• DCUnity Troupe Teacher and Choreographer
• Teaches our Recreational and Pre-Competitive Gymnastics Program ages 3-14

• Chloe is back at DCU to teach and share her passion with all
• Started dancing at DCU at the age of 3 in 1999
• Member of the DCUnity Peewee Troupe for 5 years, competing at numerous competitions
• Attended Slavin Nadal Russian Ballet School, Center Stage and The Dance Spot as a competition team member
• Continued her passion on the highly ranked STAR STEPPERS HS drill team in which she was Lieutenant in her Senior year
• Runner up for Miss Winter Dance Classic for her Senior Contemporary solo
• Graduate of Vista Ridge HS in 2013 with Texas Scholars”
